Things I’m loving this week
Friday nights again. Dan’s family gets together every Friday night (usually at his mom’s house) for dinner and drinks. I haven’t gone in, literally, a year since the pandemic struck. But…at this point, the vast majority of the family has either had the vaccine or had the virus, so….it feels safe to return again. It also feels really good….food, drinks, laughter, family….it’s really kinda everything.
Lauren’s swim swag. Lauren had her final N.E. swim banquet. Due to COVID precautions it was swimmers only and held at the school in a socially distanced manner, but….at least they got one! Lauren even made a senior speech AND came home with lots of sweet swag including a personalized NE Swim towel, her senior poster (signed by teammates), a “most outstanding” leadership award and a personalized wooden “lane flag” that one of the swim moms made. It’s going to be hard to say goodbye to NE. We’ll miss our swim family out there, but…..I believe Lauren is swimming for Penn State Behrend next year. She’ll need to step up her game to swim with the Lions, but I think she can do it.
Playing outside. Go ahead and hate on Daylight Savings Time, but….I’m willing to give up an hour of sleep for an extra hour of sunlight. The warmer weather and sunshine even drew my kids outside to play. They were hitting balls for the dog with tennis rackets. Eventually, though, the dog got tired and Dan started retrieving them. Yeah….that’s 2020-2021, eh? THAT is how bored we all are.
The new Erie sign. Erie has a cool new sign up on the bluffs that overlook the bayfront and I love it! The placement is cool, too, because the sun sets right behind it (well, now it does…I suppose that changes as the earth rotates, but…anyway…). It’s located on the Bayfront Promenade walkway and most easily seen if you park at the Erie County Health Department/Bayview Park and walk toward the bluffs.
Things I’m not loving this week
Bubble tea. Lauren and I finally made it to Erie’s new bubble tea shop. Loved the place and the employees and the cute store, but…I don’t think it’s for us. The tapioca balls made me feel like I was chewing on eyeballs. Kelly got “Strawberries and Cream” and we liked hers much better. For me….probably not worth the calories. 🙂
Last-minute Lauren. This was Lauren uploading the swim yearbook literally two minutes before she had to leave for the banquet. TWO MINUTES. Talk about going down to the wire. Why….why….why….do I have the feeling this is going to be her in every single college class trying to hand in her work/project/assignment 30 seconds before the deadline? It’s stressful on me. I know…I shouldn’t be involved and I shouldn’t even doubt her because…while she NEVER does things on my timetable or in the way that I would, my god, that girl always manages to make it.
