Things I’m loving this week

Aquage uplifting foam and silkening oil treatment. It’s no secret that I’m not exactly a girly-girl. One look at my hair and makeup will tell you that I don’t put a lot of time, money or effort into these things. I pride myself on being low-maintenance. BUT….I’m trying to grow my hair out and my largest complaint is that the texture is fuzzy. It’s not straight, it’s not curly, it’s not wavy — it’s just fluffy. So, then I went on vacation with a girly-girl girlfriend who knows volumes about makeup, fashion, hair, etc. She gave me a mini-lesson and shared her “products” with me and ….hot damn…they work. In my case, these two particular products work well when used together. (I put a little of both into my palm and run it through my towel-dried hair before blow drying). I nearly died when I saw the cost of each at Ulta, but I found both cheaper online and each should last a long time as you use just a bit of it every day.

you should write a book

Encouraging girlfriends. There’s a story behind this note: I was at an ADHD seminar where the “expert” was nothing but negative and, in my opinion, sharing outdated information that essentially blamed parents for their child’s “disorder” (also disagree with labeling it that). I eventually stood up and said that ADHD is not always a negative thing and that if you turn all the hallmarks of it around, you find the positives (i.e.  distractability = curiosity, impulsivity = creativity, hyperactivity = incredible energy.) and then I rattled off a list of famous people with ADHD who have changed the world (Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Stephen Hawking, Mozart, Einstein, Beethoven, etc.). ANYWAY…..after my little speech, a friend in the room passed me that note up there. I loved her for it because it makes my heart happy when women encourage and support and cheer one another. #womanpower #strongertogether #speakyourtruthevenifyourvoiceshakes

guinea pigs

Guinea Pigs. Welp…meet Mochi & Lance, the newest members of the Cass menagerie. This wasn’t my idea, but if your kids are begging for a furry friend of their own to love, you really can’t go too wrong with Guinea Pigs. They’re small (but still substantial), soft, furry, cute, lazy, personable (really…just open the crisper drawer and listen to them squeak), and perfectly happy to lay still for hours on your lap (Word to the wise: I’d suggest a towel underneath). The worst thing I can say about them is that they have short life spans (5-6 years at most).

The Her Times 5K. As the race director, this women’s 5K is quite a bit of work (though less than you might think) and, yet, it’s gratifying. A labor of love. I’m glad we pulled off year #13 and I’m glad it’s over until next year.

Things I’m not loving this week

OMG….where can I even start here? Let’s just not go there. I don’t want to.
