In the age-old debate over which domestic species is smarter, I present canine Sam and feline Oliver.

Since Sam was a puppy, we’ve been trying to teach him to ring the bell to let us know he wants to go outside, but he just stands there. If he gets impatient, he will pace and/or bark.

Meanwhile, Oliver figured the bells out in about 4.3 seconds. When he gets impatient, he bats them incessantly until we answer the call.

Of course, I’m the servant rushing to let the duo in and out all day long, which makes me think the felines might even have the humans beat on the ol’ intelligence scale.
