The funniest thing about these true conversations I have with Lauren is how random they are. The one below occurred after her swim class at the Y as we walked out to our car.
At no point in the evening — or any time in the recent past — were we discussing presidents or Lincoln or statues or D.C. or $2 bills, which makes me wonder what’s going on in her mind all the time. Must be a freakin’ three-ring circus in there.
Lauren: Mom, if you could have anything in the world what would it be?
Me: Hmmm…I don’t know.
Lauren: What if it didn’t cost anything at all?
Me: OK, I’d like for us all to go to Hawaii for two weeks.
Lauren: Oh, that’s a good one.
Me: So what do you want?
Lauren: I want to be the one in that big chair. You know, that statue of Abe Lincoln? I think it should be of me.
Lauren: And I want my face on the $2 bill. I know we don’t have a $2 bill anymore but we should bring it back with my face on it.
Me: Huh, well, hey…aim high, girl.
