I turned 42 last week, which sounds really old and, yet, I know that some day I’ll look back and wish I were that young again.
I still feel like I’m 32, but the size of my “baby” girls and the wrinkles around my eyes and mouth are proof that, indeed, 10 years have gone by.
I spent my 42nd birthday doing everything I wanted: First a 10K trail run with girlfriends. Then, a beach day with the family, followed by dinner on the waterfront and a sunset.
I even got a cool gift: Vibram 5-Finger shoes, which I wanted for a 16-mile adventure run I was doing with a group of friends.
The shoes came with this cool sticker that says, “Adventure Lives Inside.” Seems I should slap that sucker over my heart…or maybe over my forehead.
Life is an adventure.
I hope I’m further from the finish line than Kelly’s birthday card would indicate:
I’m only 42, you know.
But, when I am that close to the “big” finish line, I hope I’m running toward it with a big smile, wearing a party hat and blowing a noisemaker.
