The girls, mom and I had a blast in Columbus, Ohio.  And, you can, too, since they are still offering the killer deal we took advantage of that allows you to stay two nights a Drury Inn (free breakfast, free popcorn, free pop, free 5:30 happy hour and hot foods) and get 4 tickets to the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, 4 tickets to Zoombezi Bay (waterpark attached to the zoo) and 4 tickets to the COSI science center for $400.

The Drury Inn we stayed at was top notch. It had an indoor/outdoor pool and it was in a nice location, with lots of nearby dinner choices (everything you could imagine from fast food to Mexican to Chinese to Thai, etc). and there was even a mall across the street.

We went on a Sunday — leaving Erie around 8 a.m. and getting to our hotel about noon. We chose to do the Zoobezi Bay water park that day because it looked like the best day weather-wise. Apparently everyone else had the same idea. It was packed and we didn’t even ride most of the rides because they had 20-40 minute waits (in the blazing sun). No thanks. While that annoyed me, we still had fun in the wave pool, the lazy river, and the rest of the rides that didn’t have ridiculous waits. I thought the place would clear out after dinnertime, but not so. The lines were still quite long when we gave up and left at 7 p.m.

We hit the zoo the next day and spent most of the day there. We were thankful for the overcast day & occasional sprinkles because it would’ve been unbearable had it been the 90+ degree sunny day they were calling for.

On our third day, we packed up & checked out & then headed to downtown Columbus to the COSI, arriving there d 10:30 a.m.  With two and one-half floors of exhibits, an outdoor play area and a movie theater (we saw a Meerkat movie in 3-D), we had no trouble entertaining ourselves until we left around 4 p.m.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive, nearby getaway, you may want to check out Columbus. Just don’t go on a weekend!
